The UK launches the world's first vending machine for charity

Nottingham, UK, has just installed the world's first homeless vending machine, allowing those who sleep on the street to get their necessities for free at any time of the day or night. The machine is now installed in the Broadmarsh Intu shopping mall and can dispense items such as water, fresh fruit, energy bars, sanitary pads, socks and sandwiches. It even provides antibacterial lotions, toothbrushes, toothpaste and books. The project was created by Huzaifah Khaled, founder of Action Hunger, a charity for the homeless in Nottingham, which monitors machines and replenishes goods every day. The organization stated that most of the food comes from redistribution organizations in an attempt to reduce food waste, while other items are purchased with charitable donations. In order to ensure that the vending machine is not abused and only used by the people who need it most, as many as 100 homeless people will receive a traceable key card provided by a male monk. Each person can use it up to 3 times a day, and they must go through the formalities for continued use at the male monk once a week. The 29-year-old Khalid developed the project while completing his doctorate in law at Cambridge University, and even managed to persuade Nu0026W Global Vending to give him 10,000 pounds ($13,400) for free to develop this vending machine for charity.
